Aunia KahnHer art began as survival'a therapeutic response to a difficult upbringing and ongoing health challenges that evolved into a dedicated studio practice. Drawing from French Canadian heritage, German and Polish folk art, iconography, Pre-Raphaelite and surrealist artists, and the natural world, her Contemporary Symbolist Folk Art features symbolic storytelling through layered imagery, rich color palettes, and architectural forms, balancing the mystical with the domestic around themes of sanctuary and transformation. Her work has appeared in over 300 exhibitions across 10 countries, including San Diego Art Institute, Los Angeles Center for Digital Art, iMOCA, St. Louis Art Museum, Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Mitchell Museum, and Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art. She has curated numerous national and international exhibitions, lectured at Washington University School of Medicine, Scott Air Force Base, New Jersey Visual Arts and other institutions, and been featured in Yahoo, Prevention Magazine, and Authority Magazine. Kahn has authored and illustrated books and oracle decks including Altar of Becoming, Silver Era Tarot and Inspirations for Survivors and curated Lowbrow Tarot Art Book & Deck, Tarot Under Oath, and An Epidemic of Retrospective. Her books include Folk Yeah Cats, XIII: The Art of Aunia Kahn, Avalanche of White Reason, Obvious Remote Chaos, and Minding the Sea: Inviting The Muses Over For Tea. She's the co-owner Poetic Tiger Gallery and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Hyperlux Magazine. |
