The famous Leonardo da Vinci made this painting of Jesus Christ holding a crystal orb somewhere around 1499 to 1510. Translating to “Saviour of the World”, the Salvator Mundi painting shows Jesus in a blue Renaissance-era dress. He is holding a crystal orb in one hand while using his fingers to make a cross with the other hand.
This painting was rediscovered in 2005 by a British group who bought it for a mere $10,000. In 2017, it was auctioned in New York for a whopping $450.3 million at that time.
Interchange (Willem de Kooning)
Willem de Kooning’s Interchange is an oil painting based on the abstract form. De Kooning is one of the pioneers of the abstract style of art, leading the way with his distinctive style. This painting was made back in 1955.
It was sold back in 2015 at around $300 million, making it the most expensive painting in the world at that time. Its position was replaced by Da Vinci’s Salvador Mundi a couple of years later.
The Card Players (Paul Cezanne)
The Card Players was a series of oil painting art done by French artist Paul Cezanne before the turn of the 20th century. This is 1 of 5 paintings in his coveted series, which all vary based on size, players, and setting but have the same theme.
It was privately sold to the Royal Family of Qatar in 2011 for more than $250 million.
Number 17A (Jackson Pollock)
Jackson Pollock’s Number 17A is based on abstract expressionism oil painting. It was made back in the mid-20th century and is currently owned by hedge fund manager Kenneth Griffin who purchased it in 2015 for a reported $200 million.
